Dr Elissa Kluger BVSc (Hons 1) (Uni.Syd.) PhD

Veterinarian

Elissa grew up in St Ives, and attended school at Abbotsleigh in Wahroonga. She commenced Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney in 1995 and graduated with first class honours in 1999. She worked in a busy practice in the west of Sydney before moving to a busy practice in the Shire. She left practice at the end of 2005 to commence a PhD in Lipid Metabolism in dogs and cats. Her main focus was looking at triglyceride levels in dogs on Phenobarbitone, a drug commonly used for epilepsy, as well as looking at triglyceride levels in Burmese cats, and whether there was a familial link between triglyceride elevations and diabetes. She completed her PhD in 2010. She continues to be involved with Sydney University; currently as a tutor for the current 2nd year vet students.

Elissa has always had a love of animals. She owned fish and pet rats when she was young, and her family always had dogs growing up. Since moving out of the family home, she has always owned cats. Currently she owns (or is owned by!) two Burmese cats, Chai and Chockie. She loves all animals, but her passion is all things feline. She has an interest in small animal medicine, and will be completing further studies in feline medicine in 2024.

When she is not at work, she is an uber driver for her two sons, who have an extremely busy school and co-curricular schedule. She loves being outdoors; mainly bushwalking, cycling, playing tennis and swimming. She also enjoys cake baking, with many years under her belt of birthday cake requests from her two sons. She loves the challenge of perfecting recipes and making creative cake designs.
