Dr Aleshia Sommer is an experienced small animal veterinarian who has been working with the team at Turramurra Veterinary Hospital since August 2025, assisting with maternity leave cover. She has quickly become a valued member of the team, supporting both patients and colleagues with her calm approach and extensive clinical experience.

Dr Aleshia’s decision to pursue veterinary medicine was driven by a long-standing interest in animal health and biology, combined with a strong desire to work in a hands-on, people-focused profession. She completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University in the United States, after first obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biology. This broad scientific background underpins her thoughtful, evidence-based approach to patient care.

After graduating, Aleshia worked as an associate veterinarian in Oregon before relocating to Australia, where she has spent more than a decade working as a locum veterinarian across Sydney. This diverse experience has made Dr Aleshia highly adaptable, confident stepping into busy practices, and quick to integrate into new teams and systems.

Dr Aleshia brings strong small animal medicine skills, with particular experience in the management of chronic conditions. Her clinical skillset also includes abdominal ultrasound as well as wildlife treatment, in which she completed training through Taronga Zoo.

Known for her warm, approachable personality, Aleshia places great importance on clear communication and compassionate care. She takes the time to explain diagnoses and treatment options in an understandable way, helping clients feel informed and supported.
